Our Innovation Story

Since 2019, we've been pioneering new approaches to typography education through research-driven methodologies that challenge traditional learning frameworks. Our work stems from a simple observation: most typography courses teach techniques, but few teach the thinking behind great type choices.

The Cognitive Typography Method

Our breakthrough came in late 2021 when we discovered that traditional typography education was missing a crucial element: understanding how readers actually process textual information. Working with cognitive scientists from three universities, we developed what we now call the Cognitive Typography Method.

  • Eye-tracking studies revealed that readers scan typography in predictable patterns, which we've mapped into teachable frameworks
  • Neurological response testing showed measurable differences in comprehension based on specific font pairing techniques
  • Cultural typography preferences vary significantly across Malaysian demographics, influencing our localized approach
  • Digital screen optimization requires different principles than print typography, leading to our dual-medium curriculum

Research in Action

Our lab combines traditional typography study with modern technology to understand how people really interact with text.

Leading Through Research Excellence

Our approach isn't based on industry trends or popular opinion. Everything we teach comes from rigorous academic research combined with real-world testing across diverse user groups.

Celestine Voss

Director of Typography Research

Celestine's background spans fifteen years in cognitive psychology research before transitioning into typography education. Her doctoral thesis on "Visual Processing Hierarchies in Digital Text Environments" became the foundation for our teaching methodology. She's particularly interested in how cultural background influences font preference and readability across different Southeast Asian populations.

What Makes Us Different

While other typography courses focus on software tutorials and design trends, we teach the underlying principles that make typography actually work. Our students don't just learn to make text look good – they understand why certain choices improve readability, accessibility, and user experience. This research-first approach means our graduates make more informed design decisions that stand up to real-world testing.
